Piano Festival & Hello Primary

Friday night Ryan and David had a Piano Festival.

That is like a recital, only not fun. Really.

A recital is tons of fun.

You can clap and the entire family can go.

It doesn't matter if there is a little noise from little kids.

A festival has no little kids allowed--seriously.

Last year I tried to take Kevin in--and they told me no way.

They didn't care if I was a mom of two boys playing, they would not let me bring Kevin in.

And, as if that wasn't enough, you have to sit way serious through the entire thing and not clap until the end of each person's turn---which is two songs with a big long break in between so the judges can write their comments down and score.

UGH!

I left it up to the boys to choose if they wanted to participate this year.

Jason instantly decided that there was no way he was doing it if it was optional.

Ryan and David loved the music their teacher had for them to play, so they were hooked and wanted to do it.

So they did--Friday night.

Technically, we weren't supposed to take pictures.

Matt was sneaky with his phone and snapped this picture of Ryan.

He didn't get an opportunity to get one of David.

Sorry Dave:(--but you did look just as nervous as Ryan does here:)

Ryan was SO nervous.

One of the songs he has had down for over 2 months!

When we went to Vernal a few weeks ago he played it non-stop on Grandma's piano and even recorded it for her so she could play it while he was gone. It was perfect! Well, he was too nervous to play perfect on Friday. The judges could see that though, and he played really well, so he still got superior. So did David. They were SO SO SO happy! And so was I:)

I also got a phone call a few days ago asking me if I would sub in the Primary as the chorister until they got a new person called. I laughed and asked if they were serious. You see, the person asking me knows that I can't lead and sing at the same time! I can lead, or I can sing--but not at the same time. She didn't really care. She sugared me up by telling me that all I needed to do was stand up there and be cute and fun and sing with the kids--and they were all positive that I could do that perfectly. Whatever! I know me better than that. But of course I said "Yes, I would love to do that. Even if I do make a fool of myself." So, even though I said goodbye to Primary a few days ago, now I am saying hello to Primary again. I just can't go.

And I do have a new calling now--got it last night, and no, it's not chorister in the Primary. More on that later I am sure:)

  1. My kids did the Federation Festival also. Luckily they also got Superiors, but my older daughter sat down at the piano and had a brain cramp - it took her several tries to get the first note. (The kid before her was a teenager and had the bench moved way down by the low notes and it threw her off.) Once she got going, she was fine. I judged it the day my kids didn't play - and I didn't make them wait long in between the songs because that is so awkward and stressful for them!
