Scouts and Lizards

The lizards are out!
David with their first catch of the summer.
They caught 7, 2 got away when they set them down on the rocks.
After they got them home and in a safe place, well a place they thought was safe, Kevin found them and tipped the bucket over. They are all gone now. Every last one of them. So, after swimming and basketball today, they will be off to catch some more:)
Ahhhhhhh-Summer
I worked on this while helping Ryan with Scouts.
That's what I did while the other boys caught lizards.
I sat on the couch and finished one dish rag, then started this one.
That is what I do so I don't go crazy helping Ryan...read on and you will understand.
Here Ryan is, on the phone.......finally!
He had one thing to finish with his scouting merit badge.
And he had a board of review last night, right before pageant practice.
So he really had procrastinated until the last minute.
All he had to do was call one person and interview them about some things.
One phone call.........that's all.
We sat next to each other on the couch for an hour.
No, I'm not exaggerating.....you can ask him if you want.....on full hour.
He kept asking me to call and talk for him.
Then he worked on begging me to write word for word what he should say.
(Do you see why I knit while I help him now?)
I finally gave in a little and wrote a very short outline for him.
It went something like this:
---Scout
---Working on merit badge
----Could I ask some questions
----What is being done
---How can youth help
He pretended like I was the one he was calling for about 1/2 an hour.
Then he played with the phone.
Then he called to find out who to call for sure.
Then he played with the phone some more.
Then he started reviewing what he would say to me again.
(By this point I laughed and told him I just couldn't wait until he was 16 and asking a girl out on a date for the first time......I mean really, I could probably knit a pair of socks while he gets the nerve up to make that phone call!)
Then he finally called.
He did a great job, how could he not with that kind of preparation?!
The lady wanted to meet him and give him some stuff so he could learn more about it.
So I drove him to her office which happens to be in the jail:)
There I sat in the parking lot (can you tell I'm trying to teach Ryan to do things on his own?) and knitted some more, this time working on David's socks, and listened to the radio. I sat there for an hour watching people come and go, knitting, and singing along with the music until Ryan finally came out with his hands full of things she had given him to teach him all about being prepared. So my son spent and hour alone in the jail yesterday:) Funny! He said she was a very talkative person who he knows from somewhere, and he has no idea why she gave him so much stuff, but he didn't want to make her feel bad--so he took it all. And, get this, he can't remember half of what she taught him. lol--he's a teenager alright......
The board of review went well though.
Ryan is now officially working on his Eagle Scout advancement:)
I wonder how much I will knit while helping him with that........
