Today Kevin sat at the bottom of the stairs begging for me to carry him up. I was already half way up. So I bent down, held my arm out, and told him to come to me and I would carry him the rest of the way. It was literally one step up he would have had to take to reach me--one step. He refused--completely refused. I had my arms half full of stuff I was taking upstairs already. I waited patiently while he screamed and yelled at me. I then told him I was counting to three and then going upstairs, putting the stuff away, and getting in the shower. I counted, he screamed louder, I went upstairs, put things away, and got in the shower. I took my time in the shower. Matt, Ryan, & David are all at a scout camp. I needed some time alone. So I enjoyed my shower. Then I got out, leaving the fan on so I could still feel alone, got dressed, put clean clothes away that I didn't get to yesterday, and put my makeup on. Right when I was starting my hair I heard Kevin over the fan screaming that he needed to go potty. I opened the door and helped him. I could tell he'd been screaming the entire time! Yes, I felt a little guilty. So I tried to pick him up and hold him after the hand washing was done. He kicked and screamed and ran away. So I fixed my hair--which only takes five minutes--love it! When I turned the blow dryer off I could hear him still screaming. Jason and Jared were quietly watching Saturday morning cartoons--something that doesn't happen very often around my house. Remember--"Saturday is a special day, it's the day we get ready for Sunday..." Anyway, I followed the screaming to find Kevin planted right where I had left him before the shower on the stairs. I couldn't believe it. I gently picked him up, hugging him close, rubbing his back, and told him he was a pretty stubborn boy. He agreed. :) (I was thinking that I had been pretty stubborn also.) I carried him up--so yes, he got his way, and he was instantly happy and jumped out of my arms to watch TV.
I stood back, watching him, and thought,
"I hope he will be that stubborn when he's older and someone asks him to do something he knows is wrong." I pray for that.
On a different note--we had lots of fun at the elementary school yesterday.
I forgot my camera, so a friend snapped some pic's for me.
We gave the boys some of the ice cream floats we were giving to the 4th grade class (I helped with Jason's class Halloween party). Kevin was sure that Maddie (not even one yet) got some. He'd take a bite, and then give her a bite. So cute!
When I got to the school, all the big kids I had with me darted off.
Kevin and Brayden followed just as fast.
I was stopped by a friend who shared some great news with me about adoption.
In case you didn't know, Matt and I are trying to adopt right now.
Ten minutes later I caught up with all the children I was in charge of.
Here are the two littlest sitting right in the middle of all the kids in elementary, watching a movie and sharing a sack lunch. I had to snap a picture of that!
