Kevin keeping me on my toes...

Yum, Kevin and ice cream. I tried to put this down lower, but I don't know how. Notice how the ice cream is all over his shirt!
Kevin always turns the water on--always--even in the snow!

Who ever knew you could spend so much time telling a child no? Seriously--he's my 5th boy, you would think that I had boys down. Kevin has thrown us all for a loop. Just this week he put a sippy cup in the oven (which we only use at bed time--so I almost don't need them anymore) right after I turned it on to pre-heat for some cookies we were making. Luckily I saw it and got it out before too much damage was done--only the top was melted a little. So now it leaks some--but I don't really want to buy another one--he has a habit for ruining them. His most famous way is to take them outside to Sandy (Ryan's dog) and let her have a drink out of them. Too bad for me that a drink for Sandy means a completely chewed up cup! I lost count of how many he has done that to--one of them was even cousin Spencer's--lucky for Kevin that Spencer has a nice mom! :)

The very next day, you would think he had learned his lesson about the hot oven, he put a yo-yo in the oven while bread was baking. I was in the pantry and wouldn't have known about it until the burned plastic smell hit my nose, but he touched the oven door with his arm and got a pretty nasty burn which made him scream and cry a little, so I checked to see what was going on. He showed me the oven, grabbed the door open, and the yo-yo was revealed. Yikes--I think it would have ruined the bread also. I grabbed some long tongs and saved the yo-yo, and then held my wonderful baby boy and read him a book--making sure to remind him every time he complained about the burn that it wouldn't have happened if he would just not touch the oven. Do they make oven doors that lock while baking? If not, will someone please invent one? Thanks, I'll be your first customer.

He LOVES being outside. And locks don't work anymore, he can get them open anytime he wants. I don't dare shower when it's just the two of us at home. He loves to share his ice cream with Sandy and his cookies with the chickens. He also loves to catch the chickens and try to put them in Jason's live trap.

Speaking of ice cream, he opens the freezer anytime he wants, pulls the lid off the ice cream, and eats it a handful at a time! (see pic above) After the bread was baked (the yo-yo bread) he reached up to the counter where it was cooling and grabbed a BIG fist full. When he noticed I caught him, he shoved it all in his pockets!!! and gave me his best Kevin smile--that only Kevin can do. He colors all over the walls, scratches the fridge, jumps on the beds, has been known the eat chicken poop and mud, hides in the clothes at the store, pounces all his brothers, in short rules the house. And we love him!
Each day when I put him down for a nap, or for bed, I sigh with relief when his busy body finally drifts off into dream land (and his dreams would be so fun to see). Then I sit in the rocking chair, or lay in his bed next to him and marvel at the little miracle that he is. We waited so long for him to join our family--so long. He was so hard to get here, my body almost couldn't do anything but carry him. He's a handful--but I wouldn't trade him for anything. He reminds me that life is full of adventure and love. He hugs me, kisses me, and says "HI" to everyone he sees everywhere we go. I love to hold him sleeping and just memorize everything about him. All of my children are such a miracle to me. I thank the Lord for them everyday, and hope He will see fit to give me a little more--maybe a little girl to run around with Kevin each day and teach him to stop and smell the flowers before he picks them!
