On August 3 we woke up at 4:00 am, ate a quick breakfast (only a family of boys could really eat that really, scrambled eggs no less) and loaded into the van. We were on our way to Pinedale, Wy for our long planned for family vacation.
It rained most of that day. Not good when you have a 6 hour drive and then a 7+ mile hike planned, but we did it :).
I was so proud of all my boys! Kevin walked in with a pack more than half his body weight. He's only 7 so that is amazing to me!
We didn't make it all the way to base camp the first night, it was raining pretty bad so after about 6 miles we found a good spot and pitched our tents in the rain. Jason got a fire going while we threw the tents up. Of course they got wet inside. Matt couldn't find his poncho the first day so he was drenched! All the boys stripped down to their underwear and climbed into one tent with our dog, Missy. They were hot all night. Matt changed everything and froze all night. He said it was worse than any of the klondikes he has ever been on. I was fine, even with the rain going all night. But once I stepped out of the tent in the morning I couldn't wait to get some hot chocolate and warm up!

Making hashbrowns. They looked and smelled so yummy. I dished a bunch up for Matt and then gave myself some. Matt was already eating by the time I took a big bite. Oh YUCK! They were the worst hashbrowns I have ever tasted! Matt was trying so hard to eat them and not hurt my feelings. Poor man, he was relieved when I spit mine out and dumped the rest in the fire. Ugh

After breakfast we loaded everything back up and headed out.

But when we set up camp she didn't want to move!
